Claire Emma Staples - 8/30/08

Hello world, Claire Emma has officially arrived. She made it in to earth last night at 6 pm arizona time (that is 3 hours from eastern, 2 from central and so on). She weighed in at 8 lbs 1 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. She has dark hair and dark eyes. I think she resembles maddy a bit, but we shall see. Labor was quick and pain free thanks to wonderful anesthesia. Stacey and the baby are both well and both slept through the night. We are incredibly happy and very blessed. The girls are all in love with her. What a great day. We love you all and more to come soon. expect phone calls this weekend. Pictures here and more to follow! We love you all.

Still Got It...

The NFL just released the current Pro Bowl voting results for the 2008 Pro Bowl and guess who's in first place?... That's right, our own Brett Favre!

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-3-830/Favre-Leads-Pro-Bowl-Voting.html

How cool is that? At 38, he's still got what it takes to lead a winning team and make it to the Pro Bowl! The only question that remains is, How many times have YOU voted for him?

Click here to cast your vote to send Favre to the Pro Bowl one last time! And don't be bashful, you can vote as many times as you like! Go Packers!

Nashville and more

Well apparently you can live in Nashville and not even know that the country music awards show is going on in your back yard. I found out today at work that they were held just 8 or so miles from our house last night. Anyway, no big deal. Things are continuing to go well. I have switched over to Dr. Kregor's service now, which means we take care of all of the pelvis and acetabulum (bad injuries) injuries here. THings are busy, but I'm still really enjoying this. The girls are doing terrifically and enjoying school. Maddy is in an accelerated learning program called Encore and she loves it.

Coming up in January, on the 7th to be exact, is Maddy's 8th birthday. Things will be pretty exciting here. We are beginning to make plans for her baptism. The date will be on February 2nd. Everyone is invited of course. Let us know if you want to be here!

Take care, all for now, more for later.

Tips for Blogging

Being the experienced blogger that I am... (yes three months constitutes being "experienced") I figure that I'll drop a few pointers to those of you that are new to the blogging scene, in hopes of making blogging more fun and fulfilling for you all. So without further ado, I present to you...

Kodyboy's Tips to Blogging! dunn, dunn, duuuuuuunnnnn...

1. Timely Blogging is Key. It's important to blog on a consistent basis. I find it very difficult to have a successful blog when I only post something once a month, or even less. This isn't to say that you should try blogging everyday or even every other day, but if a week or 10 days has gone by without posting something on the site, it might be time to sit down and type something out. Just like TV sitcoms, you don't want to kill your readers by over-loading them with material, but at the same time, blog often enough so that their reading becomes a repeated, habitual event that they look forward to. Now you might be asking yourselves the question, I don't have that much to write about, where will I come up with enough material to write often enough? Well here's your answer...

2. You can and SHOULD blog about ANYthing. Many new-bloggers feel that only significant events such as vacations, baptisms, recitals, etc., are blog-worthy, and thus hold off blogging until something "significant" happens in their lives. Don't buy into this blogging fallacy. Blogs are not like e-mails or phone calls, and since they aren't necessarily directed towards someone, they don't always demand a response. (That doesn't mean however that they can't... Often those kinds of posts can be lots of fun) Your blog can be more of a public, personal diary, not only including what you're doing, but also what you're thinking and feeling. Some of the best posts that I've ever read have been about completely abstract, random subjects. If something interests, intrigues, inspires or infuriates you, blog about it! Chances are you aren't alone and others will really enjoy reading your thoughts and feelings.

3. Comment, Comment, Comment. While not all posts are written expressly to receive feedback from their readers, often the blogger appreciates feedback on his/her recent post, as well as anything significant that others can add to it. The proper way to respond to a post is to click on the comments link just below the post, then type in your comments in the window provided. While it's not requisite to respond to every post, I think commenting anywhere from half, to two-thirds of the time is a good amount of commenting. If you want others to blog, make sure to let them know that you care about what they're blogging about. Besides, often leaving comments can really add to the post itself, making it a lot more interesting.

Also it should be noted that while commenting on posts by e-mail is always great, making your e-mails public by leaving comments on the blog enables your comments to be commented on, thus extending the post and discussion further. Comments are great... Leave Comments.

4. Use pictures and videos. This blogger site that we're using has some great features that enable you to embed videos and pictures into your posts. Just check out my last post on my personal blog (kody-boy.blogspot.com) and you can see what I mean. Be creative and have fun with all that you can do!

5. Remember why we blog. While blogging is intended to keep friends and family in-touch, don't confuse it with e-mail by simply asking questions and setting things up through posts; leave that to letters and phone calls. Here, just express yourself and have fun talking about anything and everything with everyone!

Let the Blogging Begin!

the kodster wedding

So, who has their ticket to UT for the big event and when will you be there? I am coming alone and will be there 12/26 to 12/28. Loved the update from Kurt and the girls--wish I was there to share a lemon bar :) Movie review: watched "Evan Almighty" last night and thought it was hilarious! Also very mild and appropriate for the kids. Book review: If you haven't already read "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett (1989), it is outstanding! Thanks to Kary for recommending it to me--I have been engrossed in its 1000 pages and can't put it down! The sequel just came out: "World Without End" and I can't wait to read it. "Pillars" is a sweeping epic novel set in 12th century England. Note that it contains plenty of graphic murder, rape, and pillage as that was reality in that time and place. An EXCELLENT literary achievement for Follett. Well, it's back to the chocolate for me (I'm sorting a 300+lb. order into 5 and 10 lb increments). Love, Kristi
